    Sunday Funday

    February 3, 2018

    Not sure if I've ever really mentioned why I decided to start this blog?  I basically want to capture this season of my life. The good, the bad and everything in between!  It really is true that once you have a child, that time is almost like someone is holding the fast forward button at max.  I don't want to forget these days, just as much as I don't want them to pass.  Although some moments I can't wait to come to end, any parent can understand that!  Which leads me to this post, the story I promised on my last post here.

    Let me back up by starting with the fact that Anderson really has been the BEST baby... such a charmer that one.  However, we've been somewhat abruptly catapulted from having a baby... to a toddler.   Toddlers are no doubt fun, giggly, curious, and sweet little bundles of energy learning how to interact and communicate in the world.  One thing they are also... is unpredictable and opinionated!  Okay so maybe that was actually two things, but I couldn't choose between the two.

    {That sweet face, right?!}

    Okay, getting to the story here.....  A few Sunday's ago we get up and have breakfast as a family, Jeff was off work that weekend.  After cleaning up we all get ready and are out the door with time to spare and headed to church.  Thinking ahead, I grabbed the beloved bunny (thank you Anne!) in case we needed a comfort toy.  Once we arrive, walk in, we choose a seat on the second to last pew and on the end, as you never know with a toddler.

    The service begins and the opening hymns grab Anderson's attention and he's very busy looking around as usual.  He really has been pretty well behaved in church for the most part in the past.  Well 20 minutes into the service is the start of things going south... really south!  Starting with Anderson accidentally dropping his bunny on the floor, he exclaimed, "Uh oh!" pretty loud too.  Well this quickly became a game of dropping and picking up the bunny.

    After at least 5x of this, I gave Jeff the look, you know...the look?!  So this time Jeff didn't retrieve the bunny off the floor.  That also didn't go very well at all with Anderson, once he realized that we were leaving it on the floor... he started screaming.  To us it seemed like a blood-curdling scream might I add.  Now we were starting to get a few looks...so Jeff picks up the bunny yet again.  Then almost as quickly as he does it lands on the floor for the final time.

    Jeff reaches to take Anderson from my arms...my very sore arms, after an 8am workout and now carrying a very clingy 25lb toddler for 30 minutes, you get the idea.  Well Anderson being in his full fledge "only Mom will do" phase, clings to me for dear life.  He held the tightest grip on my dress as Jeff attempts to pry him off me.  I'm sure if you are parent none of this is new to you. Pretty typical toddler behavior.

    Thankfully, Jeff and Anderson are by now making their way out of the pew to head to the vestibule area of the church.  Taking a deep breath, I look down and OH. MY. GOSH.  Somehow during the shuffle of everything Anderson managed to unbutton my completely button-up-the-front dress.  Yes, I am standing there in church with my entire top open.  Seriously, I could just die right here. Of course I scramble to button it up as quickly as possible.  Thinking in my mind, we should just leave... just go home.  I mean this is pretty bad, right?!   However, I decided to stay and for the remainder of the service it felt like being on vacation.  Just sitting there solo, listening to the hymns and the scripture readings completely alone.  That must be what a vacation feels like right?!!!

    {See he really is an angel}

    {Those eyes will get ya every time!}

    You can't even make this stuff up!  Hopefully this gives everyone a good laugh.  As I mentioned as part of my New Year Intentions, one was to laugh more and one was to relax more.  I can confidently say I accomplished both of those on that little Sunday-Funday.

    XO,

    J
