    Trick-or-Treat Boss

    November 10, 2017

    A little late on writing this post, but I've been spending lots of time with my guys....

    Last week Anderson went trick-or-treating for the first time. From the time he was born my absolute favorite thing for him to wear were his dinosaur pajamas, loved those cute little feet on him.  Naturally, as he soon as he took his first steps in August {August 23rd to be exact, while we were in CA}, I knew he had to have a dinosaur costume for Halloween.

    I didn't have very high expectations for his first time trick-or-treating, being only a year old how much would he truly understand the concept of it?   Would he be too tired and get cranky, since he's very much a kid that likes to go to sleep when it's bedtime? Would he hate wearing the costume and have a tantrum? Would he be scared by all the people/kids in costumes? Or be scared to go up to stranger's homes?  Possibly he'd be completely indifferent to the whole thing.  Would we even get to take him, as the forecast was showing 60% chance of rain? All these scenarios were going through my head.

    Welp, let's just say that I was completely wrong on all the scenarios in my head on how the night could go.  He absolutely owned it and took on trick-or-treating like a boss.  How did he even know how to do this?!?  He walked the neighborhood with such confidence, and climbed the steps to each porch like a pro.  He had the biggest smile on his face the entire evening while he took on the whole new experience with such curiosity.

    When you step back and think about it, it's truly amazing.  Being put in a unfamiliar situation with people in strange and even scary costumes {Like a creepy scarecrow boy sitting on a porch scaring people} could potentially be very frightening to a one year old. Heck, even most adults dislike unfamiliar situations but nope, not him.  He was confident and walked with such purpose taking on the task with his head held high, plus a cute little dinosaur tail wiggling behind him.

    As much as you see your child learning and growing each day, they can honestly teach you just as much.  Yes, it's easy to be afraid and apprehensive of change or new things because they are uncomfortable.  However, with change comes growth, and amazing things can come from that. Like learning to walk in the middle of the street thinking that it's okay because you got to do it on Halloween. {eye roll}

    So life lesson here, take on any new challenge like a trick-or-treating-boss and you might just get a bucket of candy at the end.

    XO,

    J
